Single shelf on the top of this fireplace mantle, with one and three quarters base cap run around the edges to finish it off. Single three and three quarters crown molding under the shelf. Angled center key and arched headboard with recessed panels with the same one and three quarters base cap run around the recessed panels. The fireplace legs are standard three and a quarter fluting with bases cap ties on the top and bottom of the legs. The inside of the fireplace mantle has black marble with white grains running through it. The fireplace hearth has the same black white veined marble. The three most important things I can say about a fireplace is this. One, if it’s a gas fireplace you can just about put anything you want there. You can even make a cabinet for the fireplace insert to go into. Two and three, if it’s wood burning you have to have a none combustible surface on the inside, (refer to your states building codes for measurements) and use a dark color so the smoke will not show as much on the surface over the years to come.

This is the after picture of the plain Jane fireplace mantle after our renovation. Here you have two tiers of three and three quarter crown molding, with the owner's detailed leaf scrolled rope molding, not a bad touch if I may say so! Base cap on the top to finish of the shelf edge. The same corbels to support the mantle. All wood except for the scrolled leaf molding is popular, ready to stain or seal. You can see the recessed legs and headboard with this picture, but it is hard to see the legs and center key going all the way up with the crown molding cut in around it for accents. Pictured here is a thick single fireplace mantle with no legs. There was a limit on the brick wall as to how wide I could make the mantle. You can just make out the logs on each side of the wall next to the brick. Yes that’s right. I do log homes too! One of the few builders that can build from ground up, or do the custom cabinetry that goes with all log homes.
